Frequently Asked Questions

ShotClub Shootout is a brand new sport/fitness experience, so there’s a lot to learn! We’re eager to answer any questions you may have. If our FAQs page doesn’t clear it up, contact us here.
General
  • Who can play ShotClub Shootout?

Anyone over the age of 10 can join a Shootout. YOUTH Shootouts are for ages 10-13, STANDARD Shootouts are for ages 14+, and SENIOR shootouts are for ages 65+. Shootouts often consist of a variety of individuals from current basketball players and former athletes to those just looking for a fun way to workout.

  • Where do Shootouts take place?

Shootouts can be played anywhere there is a half of a basketball court, whether indoor or outdoor. During warm months and in warm climates, Shootouts often take place at local outdoor courts. Once the weather gets cold, we work with local gyms and facilities to schedule indoor Shootouts.

  • How will bad weather impact outdoor Shootouts?

If rain or heavy winds are forecasted prior to a scheduled outdoor Shootout, we will attempt to relocate to an indoor location. In this scenario, we will notify all participants well before the start of the Shootout.

If it starts to rain during a Shootout, the ShotClub Pro will end the game and we will issue a credit to each player for a new Shootout.

  • What type of clothing is recommended to play?

Comfortable athletic apparel and sneakers are required to play, in order to ensure your safety.

  • What do I need to bring to a Shootout?

All players are required to wear reversible ShotClub jersey’s during Shootouts. You can either purchase & bring your own jersey (click here to purchase) or you can borrow a freshly washed jersey that we keep on-site.

Other than that, we recommend that you bring water to stay hydrated before, during, and after the game.

  • How far in advance of the Shootout do I have to schedule myself in?

You can schedule into an open Shootout at least 12 hours prior to the start of the game. For example, for a Shootout that starts at 6:30pm, you must register into that session by 6:30am that morning.

The Game
  • How is the game played?

Shootouts of two teams going head to head in a series of shooting challenges that culminate in a final score. A ShotClub Pro (referee) will guide you through the game while enforcing the rules. ShotSpots are clearly marked on the floor to designate passing/shooting areas. In addition, the score is clearly displayed on a scoreboard and individual statistics are provided to each player within 24 hours after the game.

  • How are teams made?

The ShotClub Pro is experienced in selecting relatively even match-ups. The Pro will make teams depending on previous shooting statistics, and if unavailable, by evaluating shooters shooting skills during warm-ups.

  • How many people can participate in a Shootout?

Shootouts require a minimum of 4 participants and up to 8 players max.

  • What level of intensity workout will I get?

Shootouts deliver a moderate to high cardiovascular workout, depending on individual factors. Participants typically report burning approximately 600-800 calories per session. Although it’s a solid workout, the risk of injury is relatively low, since movements are mostly straight and predictable. In addition, each individual can adjust their pace to accommodate their fitness level.

  • How will I learn how to play?

A ShotClub Pro will explain/enforce the rules and will guide you through each new drill. Don’t worry – you’ll catch on quickly!

  • How many shots will I get in a Shootout?

Participants get an average of 150 shots per Shootout! Not only does that make for an awesome workout and an opportunity to make a ton of shots, but it is a phenomenal way for current players to get their shooting reps up in a competitive setting!

  • I'm a current basketball player. Will Shootouts help improve my shooting ability?

It’s no secret that the more you shoot, the better you’ll get. But At ShotClub we recognize the difference between shooting under pressure vs. without any accountability. You won’t just be getting 150 shots on average, but 150 attempts to make it count!

We don’t believe practice makes perfect – we believe practice under pressure makes perfect.

  • I love working out and healthy competition, but I don't want to get injured. Are Shootouts right for me?

Shootouts are simply addicting for people who love to workout and compete. It’s an added bonus that risk for injury is low, due to the predictable, self-paced nature of the game.

  • This looks like fun, but also a little intimidating. Are Shootouts only for people who shoot well?

Absolutely not! Shootouts are for anyone who wants a fun but great workout, and who enjoys healthy competition. No need to worry if you’re not the best shooter. The Pro will match the teams as evenly as possible. Plus it’s not just about overall shooting percentage – you’ll have plenty of chances to make big shots, like Moneyballs and Game Winners.
